How to merge vendors in Quickbooks Online?

I have a large list of similar vendors that I want to merge the transactions for in Quickbooks Online. I want to export my Vendor list, and then merge the similar vendors together. Is this possible? I tried assigning the same "Display Name As" for the similar vendors, but when I tried the Modify feature in Saasannt I would get errors.
